Have you ever had difficulty engaging your board? Are you looking for new ways to connect your board with your fundraising campaign? Join us in conversation with our panelists from West Valley Community Services on strategies to engage your board better. After this session, you will be able to:

  • Explain the difference between transactional fundraising and relational fundraising
  • Describe the fundraising cycle, and identify ways your board members can play a role in fundraising that goes beyond the ask 
  • Identify various measurements of success that support board member engagement while meeting fundraising goals

Speakers

Jsoh Selo Executive Director, West Valley Community Services

Josh Selo has been the Executive Director of West Valley Community Services since 2016. He is a CFRE with more than twenty years of experience in nonprofit leadership. Previously, Josh worked as the Associate Executive Director at the Palo Alto Family YMCA and the Chief Operating Officer of the JCC in Rockland County, New York. Josh has an MBA in Finance from Washington State University, and a M.A.Ed. from the William Davidson Graduate School of Education - but believes his BFA in theater from UC Santa Barbara has had the greatest impact on his career. Josh was the 2019 President of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Silicon Valley.


Monica Chandra Board Member, West Valley Community Services

Monica Chandra first experienced the direct impact of WVCS’ role in the community almost 10 years ago, as a grocery rescue gleaner and a food pantry volunteer. She joined the board in 2016 and served as the Board Chair for 3 years and as Chair of the Advocacy, Executive, Governance and Internal Committees. She also contributed as a member of the Finance, Strategic Planning and Capital Campaign Committees. In addition to her healthcare consulting work, she is an active volunteer in her children’s school community and currently serves on the Saint Andrew’s Parent Association Board and the board of the Young Men’s Service League. Monica has a BA in American Studies from UC Berkeley and Masters in Public Policy from the University of Michigan.
