From sweat equity to full cost recovery:

engaging funders

This is a recorded webinar!

This webinar originally took place on August 13, 2020 as part of the SVCN Funding Your Impact Summit.

Across the nation, there has been an increased focus on supporting equity, inclusive economies and opportunity for all.  For nonprofits that means moving beyond outdated fundraising practices that focus solely on programs, neglect investments in infrastructure, and undermine scale.  When funding doesn't cover the full cost of doing business, nonprofits close the gap through sweat equity –they overwork and underpay their people. Staff are asked to deliver on a wide range of funder, government, and board expectations while using outdated computer systems, with poor internet service and leaking offices. Aiming for "opportunity for all" through exploiting the employees of nonprofits is no path to success.

How can nonprofit leaders better support impact without exploiting the sweat equity of their staff?

How can they engage in conversations with donors around what it really costs to serve economically and socially disadvantaged communities?

And how can leaders leverage their resources to support a more just, equitable and sustainable society by better understanding their organization’s programmatic and financial needs?

Join us for an engaging dialogue on what it takes to revitalize fundraising and board practices to support racial and economic equity goals as nonprofits struggle to adapt to the new economic and political realities.

In the past, Duane has led an innovative Chicago community youth center for those most at-risk youth who were facing challenges including poverty, violence, and hunger. One of the greatest lessons that he has embraced is bringing adults, civic leaders, teachers, youth, and organizations together in one voice. This is the type of work that Duane looks forward to continuing and expanding here in his new home, San Francisco. Duane is grateful for the hospitality and support that the San Francisco Achievers team and the community have shown him.
