Join SVCN and James Williams, Santa Clara County's incoming County Executive, for an in-person Nonprofit Town Hall!

As County Executive, James Williams will manage and supervise the county's departments and agencies and all county services, programs and projects. The County Executive plays a lead role in establishing the efficiency and effectiveness of County government. James Williams, who has served as County Counsel since 2016, will succeed current County Executive Jeff Smith, when he retires after nearly 14 years in the role. 

Nonprofits will have the opportunity to introduce themselves, highlight the work of their organization, and engage in dialogue about the needs and concerns of their communities and organizations. Attendees will also have the chance to hear more about James’ vision for his role as County Executive and opportunities for nonprofit collaboration. 

This Town Hall is intended for nonprofits throughout Santa Clara County.

James Williams Incoming County Executive, County of Santa Clara

James R. Williams is the County Counsel for the County of Santa Clara. As the County Counsel, since 2016, James has served as the chief legal advisor to the Board of Supervisors, the County Executive, and all County elected officials and department heads. He oversees an office of over 100 attorneys that has been nationally recognized for excellence in public law.

James began his career with the County in 2010 as a Social Justice & Impact Litigation Fellow in the Office of the County Counsel. He later served as a Deputy County Counsel, and then served for four years as a Deputy County Executive.  As a Deputy County Executive, James provided oversight and executive leadership management of a wide range of County departments and several Countywide operations and projects.

On November 1, 2022, James was appointed by the Board of Supervisors as the new County Executive to succeed Jeff Smith upon his retirement in July 2023.
