On October 6, we'll gather for Engaging Your Board to Further Racial Equity and Justice.

Since FLY's founding in 2000, its work has always been to serve and support youth of color (primarily black and brown youth), and has always been committed to racial justice. As it continues to evolve from an organization that offers service to one that works for justice for all, a commitment to racial equity and justice has become one of FLY’s core values. FLY’s Board continues to evolve along the way. Board members have collectively learned, challenged themselves, and grown to embody these values alongside youth and staff, especially over the past three years.

Ali Knight, FLY President & CEO, and June Wang, FLY’s Board Chair, are ready to share insights, practices, and learnings from FLY’s journey to engage the board in deep and meaningful dialogue and action in service of FLY’s evolution. They will share tools and anecdotes from the past three years of a successful, enriching partnership between the Board and staff to promote racial justice and equity in our society.

About the Nonprofit Racial Justice Summit:

The Summit is hosted by Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits (SVCN), Thrive Alliance and Sacred Heart Community Service. The Summit is designed for the region's nonprofit organizations leadership, staff, and board members.

The Summit will be a learning environment where we can deepen our understanding about how to meet the nonprofit racial equity pledge and to advance racial justice and equity within our institutions and in our community. It is also a call to action for nonprofits.

The art for the Summit -- No Going Back -- was created by Bay Area artist and activist Favianna Rodriguez.
